Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the tragic death of a toddler in a car crash on Monday afternoon in West Park.

According to detectives, shortly after 2 p.m. that day, Ericka Cante Hernandez was driving a 2024 Chevrolet Suburban out of the driveway of the home at 124 Allen Road. Her son, Wilson Matias Jr., ran out of the home and was struck by the vehicle. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Paramedics transported Matias to Memorial Regional Hospital where he died.

The investigation into the crash is active and ongoing; however, at this time, detectives believe the crash was accidental in nature.
