The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a crash involving multiple vehicles and a pedestrian.

According to investigators, shortly after 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a crash in the 2600 block of South State Road 7 in West Park. The preliminary investigation reveals that the pedestrian, Shelton Reaves, was crossing westbound on South State Road 7 mid-block. At the same time, a 2010 Acura driven by Jamar Morrison, was traveling northbound in the left thru lane. Reaves began to run in an attempt to beat the traffic. Morrison noticed Reaves and tried to avoid hitting take him. However, Reaves entered the path of the Acura and was struck by the right front corner, landing in the center thru lane. While Morrison and another passersby stopped to render aid, a second vehicle struck Reaves and failed to stop continuing northbound.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded and transported Reaves to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Neither excessive speed nor impairment of Morrison are considered factors in the crash. Detectives believe the second vehicle involved was a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

Anyone with information on the crash or the second driver who fled is asked to contact BSO THI Detective Sean Strzalkowski at 954-321-4845 or submit a tip through the SaferWatch app. If tipsters wish to remain anonymous, they can contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
