Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives arrest driver who killed a pedestrian on March 15 in North Lauderdale.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., that Sunday, Traffic Homicide detectives responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the 5500 block of North State Road 7.

The preliminary on-scene investigation revealed Maurice Scott was driving a 2021 Infiniti Q50 traveling southbound on North State Road 7. Meanwhile, the pedestrian, Pedro Lopez Montejo, was crossing North State Road 7 in an area where there is no crosswalk when the Infiniti struck him.

According to investigators, Scott exited the vehicle, looked at the pedestrian laying on the roadway, returned to his vehicle and fled the scene. Through investigative means, Traffic homicide detectives were able to identify Scott as the driver who hit Montejo.

Investigators located Scott and took him into custody. Scott faces one charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and another charge for tampering with evidence.

The investigation is ongoing.
