Description of Incident
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit (THI) are investigating a crash that left a motorcyclist dead Sunday night in Dania Beach.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 24, BSO Traffic Homicide detectives responded to the 1200 block of Sheridan Street to investigate a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Omar Jerez was driving a 2020 Toyota Rav-4 sports utility vehicle (SUV) traveling eastbound on Sheridan Street approaching the intersection at Ocean Club Boulevard. Meanwhile, Eric Aguilar was riding a 2022 Honda CBR300 motorcycle traveling westbound within the right thru lane of Sheridan Street when the Toyota SUV proceeded to make a left turn at the intersection.
Detectives say the motorcycle struck the front passenger side of the Toyota SUV. The motorcyclist was ejected coming to a final rest on the pavement. Investigators say the driver of the SUV and the motorcyclist were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased.
Excessive speed on the part of the motorcyclist is considered a possible contributing factor to the cause of the crash.
The investigation continues.
