Broward Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed a motorcyclist in Dania Beach on Thursday.

At approximately 1:41 p.m. on Aug. 21, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a motorcyclist in the area of State Road 84 and Southwest 26th Terrace in Dania Beach. According to detectives, the driver of a 2019 Kia Soul, Lidia Kachanova, was traveling westbound on State Road 84 in the left turn lane before changing lanes into the left thru lane. When Kachanova changed lanes, she pulled into the path of a 2006 Electra Glide Harley-Davidson, which was traveling westbound in the left thru lane.

The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the Kia Soul before sliding across the ground and coming to a final rest on the north side of the roadway. The driver of the Kia Soul came to a stop following the impact.

Paramedics with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported the adult male motorcyclist to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

At this time, neither excessive speed nor driver impairment are considered contributing factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
