Description of Incident
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal crash that involved a vehicle and motorcycle.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a crash with injuries in the 300 block of West Copans Road in Pompano Beach. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Ford Escape was exiting the parking lot of the Marathon gas station located along the south side of the roadway with the intention of turning left to proceed west on Copans Road. At the same time a 2023 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling eastbound within the far left thru lane of West Copans Road approaching the 300 block. The Ford traveled across all three eastbound lanes directly into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the front driver’s side of the Ford in a T-bone type collision. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected in a northeast direction and came to rest within the far left westbound thru lane.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported both individuals to Broward Health North. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased, and the driver of the Ford was treated for injuries that were not life threatening.
