WHAT: BSFR live mock trauma demonstration showing how paramedics use whole blood transfusions at the scene of critical injuries.

Minutes can mean the difference between life and death for an emergency trauma patient. During Fire Service Legislative Day, Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue will show how during those crucial minutes, they are using life-saving Whole Blood transfusion before a patient reaches the hospital to increase chances of survival.

Notably, BSO EMS is the first in the State of Florida to carry and administer Whole Blood in the prehospital environment, marking a significant advancement in regional trauma care. This capability allows first responders to begin critical blood replacements within minutes of injury, dramatically improving survival in severe trauma cases.

The demonstration also highlights the impact of millions of dollars in legislative funding that will support the statewide expansion of this program, showing the public how strategic investment equips first responders with advanced tools that save lives in the field.

MEDIA NOTE: For an interview with BSFR - Media attending the event in Tallahassee must RSVP with BSO’s Public Information Office by 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17.
