Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a single vehicle crash in Pompano Beach that killed a scooter rider. 

According to detectives, shortly before 1:34 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, the driver of a 2023 Italica RX 150 Scooter, Jeffrey Ferrer, was traveling southbound on South Powerline Road within the far-right thru lane approaching the intersection at Palm Aire Drive. 

The investigation revealed an unknown grey vehicle was traveling eastbound on Palm Aire Drive, approached the intersection and came to a stop. Meanwhile, while passing through the intersection, the rider on the scooter veered towards the center and left lanes. 

Investigators say the rider of the scooter failed to maintain control of the vehicle and struck the crown of the raised concrete median. The rider of the scooter was ejected and came to a rest in the northbound designated left turn lane. 

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and transported the rider of the scooter to Broward Health North Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.  

Detectives say excessive speed and driver impairment are not considered contributing factors to the crash. 

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
