Local not-for-profit organizations play a vital role in strengthening communities, enhancing safety, and improving the quality of life for residents across Broward County. To support these efforts, Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff's Office will distribute $920,000 in Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF) dollars.

This year, 92 programs will receive funding, with 26 organizations celebrating their very first award. BSO will distribute the funds at a big check presentation ceremony from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale.

LETF dollars derive from the seizure and forfeiture of contraband used in the commission of a felony. State law allows law enforcement agencies to reinvest these funds back into the community. Through the LETF program, nonprofit organizations in good standing with active charitable 501(c)(3) status serving residents in Broward County are allowed to apply for the funds and receive $10,000 in grant funding.

The 2025–2026 recipients represent a wide range of programs that meet statutory LETF requirements, such as crime prevention, drug abuse education, and neighborhood safety, while also supporting Sheriff Dr. Tony's top initiatives: diverting youth from the criminal justice system, reducing gun violence, and providing services for the homeless and individuals facing mental health challenges.

Congratulations to this year's recipients! To learn more about LETF and how to apply for future funds, click here or email LETF@sheriff.org. To view a list of this year’s recipients, please click here.

MEDIA NOTE: Please RSVP no later than 10 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 30, at mediarelations@sheriff.org.
