LETF CHECK DISBURSEMENT CEREMONY

1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026

African-American Research Library and Cultural Center,

2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale

From providing critical resources to creating opportunities for those in need, nonprofit organizations play an essential role in improving the quality of life for Broward County residents. To support their continued efforts, Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony and the men and women of the Broward Sheriff's Office will distribute $580,000 in Law Enforcement Trust Funds (LETF) dollars during a check disbursement ceremony.

This year, 58 programs will receive funding, with six organizations celebrating their very first award. BSO will distribute the funds at a big check presentation ceremony from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale.

LETF dollars derive from the seizure and forfeiture of contraband used in the commission of a felony. State law allows law enforcement agencies to reinvest these funds back into the community. Through the LETF program, nonprofit organizations in good standing with active charitable 501(c)(3) status serving residents in Broward County are allowed to apply for the funds and receive $10,000 in grant funding.

The 2026–2027 recipients represent a wide range of programs that meet statutory LETF requirements, such as crime prevention, mental health services and neighborhood safety, while also supporting Sheriff Dr. Tony's top initiatives: diverting youth from the criminal justice system, reducing gun violence, and providing services for the homeless and individuals facing mental health challenges.
