A man was struck by a car in Tamarac, and Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are seeking the public's help to identify and locate the driver and vehicle involved.
According to investigators, the hit-and-run occurred at approximately 11:56 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 22, near the 5000 block of North State Road 7 in Tamarac. Surveillance video of the crash shows a male pedestrian crossing the southbound lanes of North State Road 7 mid-block just north of Commercial Boulevard. The driver of a silver Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the left thru lane when the driver’s side of the front bumper collided with the pedestrian in a sideswipe type crash.
After the initial impact, the pedestrian fell to the pavement and remained in the roadway between the left and center thru lanes. As the pedestrian was lying on the roadway, an unknown black sedan traveled over the pedestrian and continued southbound. At this time, other drivers noticed the pedestrian and stopped.
Meanwhile, the cameras captured the driver of the Toyota when he pulled into the parking lot of a nearby Shell gas station and exited his vehicle.
The unknown driver of the Toyota walked back towards the final resting place of the pedestrian. The unknown driver remained on the sidewalk along the west side of the roadway while good Samaritans attempted to render aid to the pedestrian. The video captures the unknown driver as he returned to the Toyota and proceeded to flee the scene driving southbound on North State Road 7.
Tamarac Fire Rescue responded and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigators describe the hit-and-run vehicle as a 2002-2006 silver Toyota Camry. The vehicle may have minor damage to the front bumper on the driver side. The vehicle is also missing the passenger side front hubcap. Detectives describe the driver as possibly an adult male who was wearing dark Bermuda shorts and a light sleeveless shirt.
