Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit arrested 22-year-old Khaleel Carey in connection to a hit-and-run crash that left a woman dead in Oakland Park.

The deadly collision occurred at approximately 12:19 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, near the 4400 block of Northwest Ninth Avenue. According to investigators, Carey was driving northbound on Northwest Ninth Avenue in a 2016 Nissan Maxima when he struck Donna Ramsey, who was crossing the roadway outside of a designated crosswalk.

BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded, and the pedestrian, identified as an adult female, was pronounced deceased on scene.

Through investigative methods, detectives located the vehicle involved in the crash and identified Carey as the hit-and-run driver. Carey was then located and taken into custody. He faces one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence and, one count of fail to stop and or remain on scene of an accident involving death.
