Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives arrested a driver in connection with a 2023 fatal crash in Pompano Beach.

At approximately 5:42 p.m., on May 21, 2023, Broward County Regional Communications received a crash call involving two vehicles at the intersection of North Andrews Avenue and West Copans Road in Pompano Beach. BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

The preliminary, on-scene investigation revealed that Jezeniah Gonzalez was driving a 2012 Ford Focus and traveling northbound on North Andrews Avenue in the right thru lane. At the same time, the driver of a 2018 Infiniti Q50 was traveling westbound on West Copans Road turning left onto North Andrews Avenue. As the two vehicles entered the four-way intersection, they were involved in a T-bone style collision. At the time of the crash, the Infiniti had a steady green arrow for a left turn, and the Ford entered the intersection as the traffic signal was a steady red light.

The damage to the Infiniti was severe enough that Pompano Beach Fire Rescue had to extract the driver and the passenger by removing the roof of the vehicle. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to Broward Health North with life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Infiniti was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Detectives determined that excessive speed by Gonzalez was a contributing factor to the crash. It was determined that the speed of the Ford Focus at the time of the crash was between approximately 90 - 102 miles per hour inside a posted 40 miles per hour speed zone.

On Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2025, Gonzalez turned herself in at the BSO Main Jail. She faces one count of vehicular homicide and one count reckless driving with serious bodily injury.
