Update: Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit say Matthew Holloway, sought in connection with a shooting that left one person dead and another injured in North Lauderdale last May, is now in custody. According to investigators, Holloway surrendered himself to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in Monticello, Florida, on Aug. 2.
The shooting occurred at approximately 1 a.m. on Friday, May 8. Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a shooting near the 7900 block of Southwest Seventh Court. Broward Sheriff’s Office and North Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to investigate. On scene, emergency crews located 19-year-old O’Mari Doe inside a 2020 Ford Mustang suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and 20-year-old Maurice Vorroto outside the vehicle suffering from a single gunshot wound.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Air Rescue Unit responded and transported Doe to Broward Health North hospital for treatment, while Vorroto, who suffered injuries listed as not life-threatening, was transported by paramedics to the same hospital. Doe was subsequently pronounced deceased at the hospital.
According to investigators, Doe, Vorroto, and two other victims were sitting inside the Ford Mustang when Aamir Adams, Anthony Adams and two juvenile males arrived at the location in a black-colored vehicle. Witnesses say upon their arrival, the suspects exited the car armed with handguns and fired multiple shots into the Mustang before fleeing the scene.
Through investigative methods, the suspect vehicle was identified as a black Honda Accord, and a BOLO (Be-On-The-Look-Out) was issued to surrounding agencies. The vehicle was later spotted by a Fort Lauderdale Police Department officer. A pursuit ensued, resulting in the suspects bailing from the vehicle near the 900 block of Southwest 13th Street in Fort Lauderdale. Following the bailout, Aamir Adams, Anthony Adams, and two juvenile males were located and arrested.
Further investigation into the incident identified Holloway as the fifth suspect involved in the shooting.
Holloway is expected to be extradited to Broward County in the upcoming days. He faces first-degree murder charges and multiple charges related to attempted murder in the first degree.
