A pedestrian was struck and killed in Lauderdale Lakes, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. 

The fatal collision took place just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, near the 2900 block of North State Road 7. The preliminary investigation revealed Angelica Carmona was traveling in a 2016 Nissan Versa Note northbound on North State Road 7 when it struck 63-year-old Yolande Mondesir. Following the collision, the driver of the Nissan stopped, remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. 

According to detectives, Mondesir was walking westbound across North State Road 7 in an undesignated crosswalk area when the impact occurred.

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded, and Mondesir was pronounced deceased on scene.  

Investigators say there is no evidence of excessive speed or impairment on behalf of the driver. 

The investigation is ongoing.
