Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating an Oakland Park crash that left a passenger dead.

The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 27, near the intersection of Northeast 15th Avenue & East Oakland Park Boulevard. According to investigators, Jhanne Teo and two passengers were traveling in a 2010 Toyota Corolla eastbound on East Oakland Park Boulevard. At the same time, Carlon Cartwright Jr. was traveling westbound in a 2015 Hyundai Accent. Detectives say, at some point, the driver of the Toyota attempted to make a U-turn to travel westbound when the front driver side of the Hyundai struck the front passenger side of the Toyota. The impact redirected the Toyota in a northwest direction, where it collided with a fire hydrant.

Detectives say both vehicles then came to a final rest in the northwest corner of the intersection.

BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded and transported the driver of the Toyota, Teo, and his passenger, Timothy Magill, to an area hospital for treatment. A juvenile passenger in the Corolla was also transported. Teo and the juvenile’s injuries were listed as not life-threatening, while Magill’s injuries were listed as critical. Cartwright complained of no injuries and remained on scene during the investigation.

On Wednesday, April 30, Magill was pronounced deceased at 10:56 p.m. The case was transferred to detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit the following week.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
