Description of Incident
A motorcyclist is dead following a vehicle crash in Pompano Beach, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
According to investigators, at approximately 1:51 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, Katerin Cisneros-Moreno and three passengers were traveling in a 2014 Mazda CX-5 SUV headed westbound on West Atlantic Boulevard in the center-thru lane approaching Northwest 31st Avenue. At the same time, a motorcyclist was on a 2023 Harley-Davidson Sportster traveling eastbound on West Atlantic Boulevard in the designated left turn lane approaching the same intersection as the SUV.
Detectives say as the motorcyclist turned left across the westbound lanes of West Atlantic Boulevard the front passenger side of the Mazda collided with the right side of the motorcycle in a T-bone-type crash. The impact of the collision caused the driver of the motorcycle to be ejected in a northwest direction. Both vehicles were then redirected off the roadway and onto a sidewalk within the northwest corner of the intersection. Investigators say the driver of the motorcycle was struck a second time following the initial impact and came to a final rest under the SUV.
Immediately after the crash, the Mazda driver and the three passengers exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the crash scene on foot. The four individuals were detained by BSO deputies, who witnessed the crash, and BSO Pompano Beach responding units.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded and extricated the motorcyclist from under the vehicle. The motorcycle driver was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation continues.
