Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in Lauderdale Lakes on Wednesday night.

Shortly after 8 p.m. on Sept. 16, BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Northwest 46th Avenue and West Oakland Park Boulevard in Lauderdale Lakes. According to investigators, the driver of a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan was traveling westbound on West Oakland Park Boulevard within in the center thru lane at a high rate of speed. At the same time, a 2014 Chevrolet Express van was traveling eastbound on West Oakland Park Boulevard and conducted a left turn to go northbound onto Northwest 46th Avenue. That’s when the front of the Volkswagen struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet in a T-bone type crash.

The impact caused both vehicles to rotate toward the northwest corner of the intersection. The Volkswagen rolled over onto the driver’s side where it came to a final rest.

Both drivers were transported to an area hospital where the driver of the Volkswagen was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained injuries that were not life threatening.

The investigation is ongoing.
