Over the past several weekends, the Broward Sheriff’s Office Weston District has received numerous complaints regarding illegal street racing and dangerous motorcycle stunt riding around US Highway 27 and Griffin Road. In response, the BSO’s Weston District and BSO’s Regional Traffic Unit will be implementing a series of educational and enforcement initiatives to address these ongoing concerns.

The operation, which began on Feb. 15, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Deputies will focus on red light violations, equipment safety violations, failure to yield right-of-way, impeding the normal flow of traffic, and decreasing aggressive driving and speeding, which will reduce the number of traffic crashes that can occur.

During the traffic enforcement deputies will be conducting safety inspections for motorcycles and vehicles entering the parking lot of the Seminole Travel Center located at 4690 US-27 in Weston.

No travel lanes on US Highway 27 will be closed.

The goal of the traffic enforcement is to provide safer roadway usage for all motorists and protect vulnerable roadway users such as bicyclists and pedestrians.

BSO urges drivers to obey traffic laws on all Broward County roadways and exercise safety at all times.
