Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that left a man dead in Cooper City.

At approximately 6:20 p.m., on Sunday, June 21, BSO Traffic Homicide detectives responded to the 8700 block of Griffin Road in Cooper City after receiving a report of a crash involving two vehicles.

The preliminary investigation revealed Arie Levy was driving a 2016 BMW 750 sedan traveling westbound on Griffin Road approaching the intersection of Southwest 87th Avenue while Nicole Thomas was driving a 2020 Chevrolet Trax SUV Chevrolet traveling eastbound on Griffin Road approaching the same intersection.

The on-scene investigation revealed Levy failed to maintain control of the vehicle and traveled southwest through the intersection into the eastbound lanes. The front passenger side of the Chevrolet collided with the rear passenger side of the BMW in a sideswipe type of crash.

Detectives say the impact caused both vehicles to rotate clockwise away from the area of collision. The Chevrolet came to rest within the intersection while the BMW continued southwest, where it came to rest upon the sidewalk along the south side of the roadway.

On scene, BSO deputies provided life saving measures to Levy. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue transported Levy to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased

Investigators say it is possible Levy suffered a medical event prior to the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
