Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Investigations (THI) are investigating a crash involving two vehicles that killed a man in Wilton Manors. 

According to detectives, at approximately 4:41 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a crash in the area of 2400 Northwest Ninth Avenue in Wilton Manors. Wilton Manors Police and Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded. At the request of Wilton Manors Police, BSO’s THI detectives responded to investigate. 

The preliminary investigation revealed that the adult male driver of a 2007 Toyota Matrix made a wide right turn from a parking lot onto Northwest Ninth Avenue when the vehicle collided with a 2022 Nissan Versa, driven by Carla Hernandez. Prior to the crash, the driver of the Nissan Versa was driving northbound in the left thru lane. The vehicles collided in a T-bone style collision, sending both vehicles into the raised center median. 

After the crash, the Toyota Matrix impacted a tree before coming to a final rest. Paramedics transported the driver to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives say the man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Nissan Versa was uninjured. 

The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing.
