Description of Incident
A motorcyclist is dead following a vehicle crash, and detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
According to investigators, the preliminary investigation revealed Luis A. Silva was traveling southbound on a 2004 Yamaha YZF-R6 on Southwest 100th Avenue, just south of Griffin Road in Cooper City. At the same time, Frank Anthony Cerino was traveling in a 2022 BMW 840i also headed south on Southwest 100th Avenue, just south of Griffin Road.
Detectives say that as Yamaha approached the slower-moving BMW, the motorcycle—for unknown reasons that are under investigation—came to a rest on top of the BMW. The Yamaha driver was ejected from the motorcycle in the process and came to a final rest in the roadway.
BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. Paramedics transported Silva to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. Investigators say Cerino was not injured and remained on scene.
The investigation continues.
