Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred Saturday night in Deerfield Beach. 

The fatal crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24. According to investigators, 57-year-old Michael Joseph Fazio was traveling in a 2024 Audi Q7 heading southbound on North Federal Highway in the left thru lane. His Audi merged into the middle thru lane at which time the adult female pedestrian was crossing North Federal Highway from east to west. 

Detectives say the pedestrian was struck by the Audi. The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was not crossing in a designated area for pedestrians to cross. 

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. Paramedics transported the pedestrian to Broward Health Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased. 

At this time, neither speed nor driver impairment is considered a contributing factor in the fatal crash.

The investigation continues.
