Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a Fourth of July crash that left two dead in Dania Beach Saturday evening.

According to investigators, at approximately 5:51 p.m. that day, 38-year-old Vladimir Mushenko and three passengers were traveling eastbound on East Dania Beach Boulevard in a white 2020 BMW M8 at a high rate of speed. At some point, Mushenko struck a curb on the south side of the roadway, overcorrected, lost control, and slid sideways over the curbed center median. The BMW then traveled into the westbound lanes of East Dania Beach Boulevard where it struck a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS head-on.

BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. According to investigators, Oleksii Masksymov, a passenger in Mushenko’s BMW was pronounced deceased on scene. Mushenko, the two other passengers in his vehicle, the driver of the Mercedes, and four of the passengers in her vehicle were transported to area hospitals for treatment. The third passenger in Mushenko’s car, identified as Said Akhmedov, was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The occupants in the Mercedes suffered injuries listed as not life-threatening.

Investigators say that driver impairment and excessive speed were contributing factors to the fatal crash.

Mushenko was placed under arrest the night of the incident and faces a total of 22 counts related to vehicular homicide, DUI, and reckless driving. The investigation continues.
