Description of Incident
Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating a crash that left a pedestrian dead in Pompano Beach.
The preliminary investigation revealed Keno-Jac Rowe had his 2019 Peterbilt semitruck with 53-foot enclosed trailer parked along the driver’s side of a 2024 Kenworth semitruck with 53-foot enclosed trailer in the Pompano Beach truck stop. Rodney Battle was inside the sleeper cab of his semitruck at the time of the incident.
The on-scene investigation revealed that as Rowe pulled out of his parking space, he was unaware that MD Mridha was standing on the step of the Kenworth semitruck. As Rowe began to negotiate his way out of the parking space he side-swiped the Kenworth semitruck pinning Mridha between the trailer of the Peterbilt semitruck and the cab of the Kenworth semitruck.
Detectives say Rowe stated Battle honked his horn which caused him to stop the vehicle, unsure if he had struck the Kenworth semitruck. Rowe backed up slightly and got out of his truck to look, this is when he noticed Mridha on the ground.
Mridha was transported to Broward Health North where he was pronounced deceased.
Excessive speed or impairment are not suspected to be factors in this crash. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
