Description of Incident
A man riding an electric bicycle was pronounced deceased after being found lying in the roadway. Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Shortly before 2 a.m., BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to reports of a man found lying in the roadway near the 4400 block of Davie Boulevard in unincorporated Fort Lauderdale. On scene, paramedics conducted CPR; however, emergency crews were unable to resuscitate him, and the rider was pronounced deceased.
The preliminary investigation revealed a passerby found the man, who was riding a Lectric XP 3.0 electric bicycle, lying in the eastbound lanes of Davie Boulevard. Detectives say an examination of the roadway, the bike, and the man’s injuries show no evidence that the rider was struck by a vehicle. Based on this information, investigators believe the man may have suffered a medical event that caused him to become incapacitated.
The investigation continues.
