When Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at a house fire, they quickly realized some of the smallest residents needed their help.

On the evening of June 19, BSO deputies in Parkland responded to a residential fire and were the first to arrive on scene. They soon discovered that five puppies and the pups’ mom and dad remained trapped inside the home.

Working quickly and selflessly, the deputies and first responders rescued the pups and their parents, carrying them to safety before firefighters finished extinguishing the fire. While the family was temporarily displaced during repairs, they were able to leave that night with what mattered most, their beloved pets.

“Thanks to the deputies’ decisive actions, every dog survived without injury,” BSO Parkland District Captain Michele McCardle said. “Their actions are a reminder that our deputies are willing to risk their own safety to protect every member of our community, including those who cannot call for help themselves.”

On Wednesday, August 19, the BSO deputies who saved the puppies were recognized at a Parkland City Commission meeting.
