The Broward Sheriff's Office has proudly provided law enforcement services to the City of Parkland since March 1, 2004, following the Parkland City Commission's decision to merge its police operations with BSO. What began as a simple partnership has steadily developed into a comprehensive, community-focused approach to public safety.
Parkland is a predominantly residential community covering 14.3 square miles in northwest Broward County. True to its name, Parkland has long embraced thoughtful, managed development to preserve its signature park-like atmosphere. Miles of bicycle paths, multi-use trails, recreation fields, an equestrian center and beautifully maintained parks all contribute to the exceptional quality of life enjoyed by its more than 38,000 residents.
BSO's Parkland District Command operates with an annual budget of approximately $13.9 million and provides for 56 positions, including a district captain, executive lieutenant, seven sergeants, 42 deputies, 2 community service aides/crime scene investigative aides, code enforcement and administrative support staff.
To meet Parkland's needs, the district employs a blend of traditional patrol operations and specialized services designed to keep the community safe and engaged. These include marked patrols, traffic enforcement and investigative support. School safety remains a top priority as every public and charter school in Parkland is staffed by multiple School Resource Deputies (SRD), supervised by a dedicated SRD sergeant, to ensure consistent response and support for students, staff and families.
The Parkland District also offers a variety of crime-prevention and community programs, such as active assailant preparedness training, youth outreach initiatives and a growing presence at neighborhood meetings, HOA gatherings and city-sponsored events. Through these partnerships, BSO Parkland continues to build trust, strengthen communication and support the safety and well-being of all residents.
Together, the City of Parkland and BSO remain committed to preserving and protecting the peaceful, family-focused environment that helped Parkland earn the #1 ranking as the best city to live in Florida, according to U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026).
