Lieutenant Steve Upadayya began his career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office in 2014 as a Road Patrol Deputy assigned to the Oakland Park District. In 2017, he was selected as a Detective in Oakland Park, where he investigated property crimes and complex fraud-related cases.

Promoted to Sergeant in 2021, Lieutenant Upadayya served in Road Patrol supervisory assignments in the Lauderdale Lakes and Central Broward districts before returning to Oakland Park. Upon his return, he supervised Road Patrol operations and was later appointed as the Alpha Shift District Administrative Sergeant. He subsequently transferred to the Deerfield Beach District, where he oversaw the Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC), Behavioral Response Team, and Operational Deployment Team

In 2024, Lieutenant Upadayya was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned as the Road Patrol Operations Lieutenant for the Cooper City District, overseeing all Road Patrol operations and the Tactical Deployment Team. In February 2026, he was selected to serve as the Executive Officer for the Cooper City District, where he assists in the leadership, administration, and strategic direction of district operations.

Lieutenant Upadayya is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute’s Command Officer Development Course (100th Session) at the University of Louisville. In addition, he holds a Certificate in Organizational Management from the University of Louisville and is a graduate of the FBI Executive Leadership Program. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and has extensive experience in investigations, patrol operations, real-time crime technologies, special operations, and organizational leadership.
