Lieutenant Jeff Tozzie began his career in law enforcement in 1976 with the Wilton Manors Police Department.  In 1979 he joined the Oakland Park Police Department, with duel certification as a firefighter/police officer.

In 2000, he became part of BSO after Oakland Park's merger with BSO.  He served as the executive officer for the Oakland Park District and the Weston/West Broward Districts; was part of the OSSI Records Management Implementation Team; and then served as executive officer for the Port Everglades District.  He joined the Cooper City District in November 2016, where he presently serves as its executive officer. 

Lieutenant Tozzie earned a bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1980, followed by a master's degree from Nova University in 1984.  He attended the Florida Criminal Justice Institute's Senior Leadership Program in 1988 and graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2007.

The Broward Sheriff's Office has provided law enforcement, fire rescue and code-compliance services for Cooper City, home to more than 33,000 residents in southwestern Broward County, since the city's police and fire rescue departments merged with BSO in February 2004. A predominantly residential community of 7.5 square miles, Cooper City has long-prided itself on its commitment to maintaining a beautiful, growth-managed city, reflected by its motto: Someplace Special.

BSO's Cooper City district has positions including District Captain, Executive Lieutenant, Patrol Lieutenant, Sergeants, Deputies and Community Service Aides, Crime Scene Investigation Aides, and Code Enforcement. The city currently has five public schools, each staffed with a full time BSO School Resource Deputy. The city is also home to two charter schools.

In addition, two BSO K-9 deputies, Traffic Enforcement Unit, and a Crime Suppression Unit (CSU) operate from the district office keeping the streets of Cooper City safe. BSO Cooper City is proud of the community-oriented programs that are offered which include Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT), Citizens Observer Patrol (C.O.P.S), a gun safety program for adolescents and S which educates our younger population to protect themselves against violence and harm. The BSO Cooper City command has one of the largest Law Enforcement Explorer Programs for youths 14-21. The program offers young adults the opportunity to learn and experience lawful citizenship as they participate side-by-side with certified BSO deputies in ongoing training and community service projects.

BSO's Cooper City district also offers a "Chip-a-Pet" program. The district and a local veterinarian hospital have partnered together to micro-chip dogs and cats. There is no cost for Cooper City residents, the event is generally held twice a year. Contact the district office at (954) 435-2000 for scheduled dates.
