The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) Collegiate Athlete Recruitment Program (C.A.R.P.) is a distinctive internship designed for student-athletes interested in exploring careers in public safety. Through mentorship, professional development and immersive experiences, participants gain firsthand insight into one of the nation's largest full-service public safety organizations while learning how the leadership, discipline and teamwork developed through athletics can translate into long-term career success.

Typically completed within a single academic semester, the 10–12 week program combines virtual learning, field experiences, professional shadowing and career exploration opportunities. Participants receive practical exposure to a variety of public safety professions while building valuable skills, expanding their professional network and gaining real-world experience beyond the classroom and playing field.

Why Participate in C.A.R.P.?

  • Explore diverse career pathways in public safety: Gain firsthand exposure to careers in law enforcement, fire rescue, detention and corrections, 911 communications and civilian professional roles.

  • Designed with student-athletes in mind: Flexible scheduling accommodates practices, competitions, travel and academic commitments, allowing participants to balance athletics, academics and career development.

  • Experience public safety from the inside: Go behind the scenes of specialized units, operations centers and public safety services that most people never have the opportunity to see.

  • Participate in hands-on learning opportunities: Engage in field experiences, ride-alongs, facility tours and professional shadowing opportunities that bring classroom concepts to life.
