Captain Shanda Martin
Captain Shanda Martin proudly serves as the Pompano Beach District Area 1 Captain. A graduate of Blanche Ely High School, she went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU). In 2007, she began her career with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and has since built a respected and accomplished career in law enforcement, rising steadily through the ranks.
Throughout her tenure, Captain Martin has held a variety of assignments that have shaped her leadership and experience. She served as a Property Crimes detective in the Pompano Beach Criminal Investigations Division and Special Victims Unit (SVU), as well as a sergeant overseeing Patrol, Court Services, and SVU. She also worked as an investigator in Internal Affairs. In addition to her operational roles, she is a certified FDLE General Instructor and has dedicated significant time to training, mentoring, and developing fellow deputies.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Captain Martin is deeply committed to serving her community. She has volunteered extensively in youth athletics and served seven years on the executive board of the Tamarac Youth Cheer and Football Program. She is passionate about creating positive opportunities for young people and helping them grow into confident leaders. Grounded in her faith, family, and community values, Captain Martin leads with integrity, compassion, and purpose. She considers it both an honor and a responsibility to serve the residents of Pompano Beach and remains dedicated to giving back to the community she proudly calls home.
Captain Martin is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Disaster Management at Florida International University (FIU), where she will graduate this coming August.
