At approximately 10:37 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, Broward Sheriff’s Office district deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the 2900 block of North Dixie Highway. BSO deputies arrived at the scene of the crash. Paramedics pronounced the driver, Judith A. Power, deceased on scene. BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives responded to investigate. 

The preliminary investigation revealed Power was driving a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle traveling northbound on North Dixie Highway when it veered to the right onto the raised curb driving on the sidewalk. 

Investigators say the Volkswagen continued northbound along the sidewalk and east swale where it struck a large tree. The Volkswagen rotated around the tree, which caused the engine to be ejected from the engine compartment. After impacting the tree, the momentum of the crash caused the Volkswagen to ricochet back into the roadway coming to final rest in the southbound lanes of traffic.

According to investigators, there were no other persons injured in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
