Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal single-car crash in Cooper City on Wednesday morning that killed a woman. 

At approximately 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, Broward County Regional Communications received a report of a car in a canal in the 8800 block of Griffin Road in Cooper City. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. The preliminary investigation revealed that an Infinity G37XS was traveling westbound on Griffin Road when, for reasons unknown, the driver of the vehicle veered in a northwesterly direction, struck a raised concrete sidewalk, struck a concrete wall and became airborne before landing in the C-11 canal. The vehicle became submerged. 

A passenger in the vehicle, Joseph Foster, was able to free himself from the vehicle and was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries not expected to be life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle, Caitlynn Heron, was not able to free herself and was pronounced deceased on scene. BSO’s Dive Team responded to the scene and assisted with locating the vehicle in the canal and removing the vehicle from the waterway.

BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
