Description of Incident:

Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating a workplace incident in Pompano Beach that left a truck driver dead.

Around 6 a.m. Sept. 16, BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a call at Kloeckner Metals, located at 1621 N.W. 12th Ave. A truck driver from Pro Drivers had arrived to make a pick-up and was ensuring his load of steel beams was secured prior to exiting the warehouse. While standing outside the tractor trailer, a pile of 40-foot-long metal beams stacked next to his truck, each weighing more than 1,000 pounds, became unsecured and fell onto the victim, resulting in his death.

The Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Technical Rescue Team responded to the scene and used a crane to lift the steel beams off the man’s body. The body was transported to the Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office to undergo an autopsy. Officials from the Occupational Health & Safety Administration also responded to the scene to investigate the incident.

The male was later identified as Sylvester Roulhac of Coral Springs.

The death investigation is ongoing.
