Broward Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit detectives say three teens have been arrested in connection to a shooting that left a 16-year-old dead and another juvenile injured in Lauderdale Lakes.
The shooting occurred shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, near the 4000 block of Northwest 30th Terrace. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to area hospitals. The 16-year-old, identified as Amari Dreakford, was pronounced deceased from his injuries at Broward Health Medical Center. The second victim suffered injuries listed as not life-threatening. BSO Crime scene and Homicide detectives were notified to investigate.
While conducting the investigation, detectives learned that Dreakford and two other 16-year-old males were driven to the location by 18-year-old Clovenson Alexandre. Detectives say Alexandre drove them there so that Dreakford could conduct a gun sale with a 15-year-old male.
During the transaction, Dreakford attempted to rob the 15-year-old with a loaded gun. A struggle ensued, and Dreakford was shot by the 15-year-old's friend, who was in the area waiting. Following the attempted robbery turned shooting, Alexandre, the two passengers, the 15-year-old, and the 15-year-old's friend fled the shooting scene.
Through investigative means, detectives later identified the parties involved, and warrants were issued for Alexandre and the 16-year-old passengers.
On Monday, Aug. 26, detectives with BSO's V.I.P.E.R. (Violent Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response) took 18-year-old Alexandre and the two 16-year-old males into custody on armed robbery charges related to the events which led up to Dreakford's death and the non-fatal shooting of the 15-year-old male.
At this time, all suspects involved in the homicide have been identified and investigators are working with the Broward State Attorney’s Office for any potential prosecution.
