In an effort to prevent prescription drug abuse and identify theft throughout the county, the Broward Sheriff’s Office will collect unwanted medications and personal documents for safe and proper disposal Saturday, July 17 in Deerfield Beach.

The free BSO Operation Medicine Cabinet and Shred-a-Thon event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Rescue Station 66 located at 590 S. Powerline Road.  

During the event, residents can securely dispose of unused, unwanted or expired medications. Participants who turn in prescription medications will receive a $5 gift card while supplies last. Needles and sharp objects will not be collected.

Documents for shredding will also be collected. A maximum of two boxes per vehicle are allowed, and each box can be no larger than 16 inches in length, 12 inches in width and 12 inches in height.
