Description of Incident:

A Pembroke Pines man, who has been employed at Calvary Christian Academy for approximately seven years, was arrested Wednesday facing six counts of possession of child pornography.

In December, Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives, who are part of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, received information that a computer had been sharing child pornography images on the internet for about six months.  Through the investigation, detectives determined the computer in question was located at a home in Pembroke Pines.  Investigators executed a search warrant on the property on Jan. 16 and came in contact with Jesus Mendez, 35, who admitted to utilizing his computer to download child pornography for his sexual gratification.  Mendez has been booked into the BSO Main Jail facing seven charges related to child pornography.

At the time of the arrest, Mendez had been employed at Calvary Christian Academy for approximately two years as an IT Technician.  Prior to that, he worked at the school for five years as a volunteer coordinator in the Family and Children’s Ministry.

Though Mendez denied having inappropriate physical contact with children, detectives want to make sure he hasn’t acted on his desires.  Anyone with information about Mendez that could aid detectives in this investigation should contact BSO Detective Nick Masters at 954-888-5264.  If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.  Anonymous tips that lead to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $3,000.
