The Broward Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the results of Operation Summer Splash, a two month traffic initiative geared at reducing dangerous driving behaviors this summer.
As temperatures climbed, so did traffic and congestion on Broward County roadways. In order to reduce the number of aggressive drivers, speed violators and distracted/impaired drivers on the road, BSO’s Regional Traffic Unit conducted a traffic enforcement operation focused on educating and enforcing safe driving habits throughout the county.
The operation, which began in June and continued through mid-August, generated a total of 3,212 citations and 18 arrests. Of the 3,212 citations issued, 1,491 were for non-moving violations; 1,406 were for speeding; 269 for moving violations; 36 for move over violations; and 10 were for aggressive driving. During the course of this operation, 321 motorists also received educational handouts.
“This operation was a huge success and illustrates the agency’s efforts in combating the spike in traffic incidents,” BSO Major Jeffrey Morse said.
BSO reminds the public to slow down and obey all traffic laws on Broward County roadways.
