Driver 2: Jonathan Wright, 46, male, Cooper City (HOSPITALIZED)

Description of Incident:

Detectives are investigating a crash that occurred Sunday morning in Dania Beach and took the life of one of the two drivers involved.

At 10 a.m., Richard Day was riding a 2000 Yamaha V-Star motorcycle northbound on South Federal Highway between Stirling Road and Dania Beach Blvd. At the same time, Jonathan Wright was driving a 2008 two-door Honda Civic in the same direction following behind the motorcycle.

For an as of yet undetermined reason, the Honda rear-ended the motorcycle while both vehicles were in motion. Wright’s car rode up onto the rear of the motorcycle and ejected Day from his bike.

Wright’s car then struck a Bob’s Barricades arrow signboard, rolled over and came to rest upside down.

Both drivers were trauma alerted to nearby hospitals. Wright was in serious condition. Day died on October 23 due to injuries sustained during the crash.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
