Description of Incident:
Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents are investigating a non-fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday in Dania Beach.
Just after 11 a.m. Feb. 20, Broward County’s Regional Communications received a report that one female was threatening another female with a knife at 103 N.E. Third St. When Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, an armed female exited the home and charged at deputies, prompting at least one deputy to discharge his weapon.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the suspect, Kim Nguyen Cholak, 40, to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment of not-life-threatening injuries. During a subsequent statement, Nguyen told detectives she fabricated the story of the attack in order to have deputies respond and commit suicide by cop.
Cholak has been released from the hospital and will be booked into the Broward County Main Jail facing four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer along with receiving care under the Baker Act.
Per BSO policy, the deputy who fired was placed on administrative leave.
FDLE’s investigation continues.
