Description of Incident:
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a fatal deputy-involved shooting that occurred in Oakland Park on Wednesday afternoon. 

At approximately 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 10, detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Oakland Park District Crime Suppression Team were searching for Alexander Staal, who was wanted for several felony domestic violence charges related to a recent incident. Detectives located Staal’s vehicle in a parking spot in the 800 block of East Prospect Road and confirmed that he was inside. Detectives identified themselves as law enforcement officers and made numerous attempts to get Staal to surrender. Staal refused to comply with commands. Following the standoff, at approximately 2:47 p.m., a confrontation occurred, and deputies were forced to fire their weapons. Oakland Park Fire Rescue pronounced Staal deceased on scene. 

No deputies were injured during the incident. Three deputies fired their weapons, and the deputies have been placed on administrative assignment pending further investigation.

According to detectives, Staal was wanted for attempted kidnapping, burglary of a dwelling with battery, aggravated stalking after injunction for protection and domestic battery related to an incident that occurred in Oakland Park on Jan. 7. 

The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, and FDLE is the lead investigating agency regarding this incident.
