As friends and family prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone to enjoy the festivities responsibly. From July 2 to July 7, BSO’s DUI Task Force and Marine Unit, in conjunction with the Florida Wildlife Commission, the Florida Highway Patrol and local police departments, will conduct enforcement efforts as part of a driving/boating under the influence joint operation.

The operation will include speed, boating violation, underage drinking and seatbelt violation enforcement, as well as saturation patrols. The primary purpose of the operation is to detect and apprehend impaired drivers/ boat operators who are an immediate threat to the safety of the public.

During this time, BSO will also be taking part in Operation Knot Lit, a Florida Sheriffs Task Force enforcement effort with the goal of providing a coordinated statewide law enforcement presence in order to create safer roads and waterways.

This news release is being issued in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling mandating prior announcement of selective enforcement activities.
