Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit (THI) detectives are investigating a fatal crash that killed a man on Wednesday evening.

According to detectives, around 10:14 p.m. on July 2, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a traffic crash involving two vehicles in the area of 4600 Peters Road. Plantation Police Department officers and Plantation Fire Rescue initially responded to the scene. BSO deputies and BSO THI detectives also responded.

The initial investigation revealed that the driver of a 2003 Honda Accord sedan, David Ramsden, was traveling westbound on Peters Road approaching a construction zone near the intersection of Southwest 46th Avenue. The driver of the Honda aggressively maneuvered around traffic warning signs and other vehicles into the designated left turn lane at the intersection. The driver of the Honda then continued west through the intersection at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the Honda failed to observe the concrete media on the west side of the intersection. The Honda struck the median and continued traveling westbound. A 2023 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup, which was occupied by Steven Bell, was parked just west of the median in the shared left turn lane. The front of the Honda collided with the front of the Ram in a head-on collision. The Honda rotated clockwise and came to rest near the area of impact. The Ram was projected westbound and rolled to final rest within the left eastbound lane of Peters Road.

Paramedics transported Ramsden to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Bell was treated on scene.

Excessive speed and driver impairment by the driver of the Honda are considered as possible contributing factors to the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
