The Broward Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the death of a man following a hit-and-run on Thursday.

At approximately 6:47 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, an unknown vehicle, described as possibly a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling northbound in the center lane on North State Road 7 passing through the intersection at Northwest 19th Street. As the unknown vehicle exited the north side of the intersection, the pedestrian who was either in the crosswalk or just north of the crosswalk, crossed North State Road 7 in front of the unknown vehicle. Preliminary investigation revealed, after striking the pedestrian the unknown vehicle stopped and then changed lanes. The driver of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata was traveling behind the unknown vehicle and observed the vehicle brake hard and change lanes to the left. With both vehicles in the left thru lane, the unknown vehicle began to slow down again. The front of the Hyundai Sonata struck the rear of the unknown vehicle.

Witnesses told detectives that the unknown vehicle stopped momentarily, reversed a short distance and fled the area northbound.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a 2019 or newer dark colored Chevrolet Silverado.
