Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred in West Park over the weekend.
According to investigators, at approximately 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to a report of a person hit by a car near the 5600 block of Southwest 19th Street.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was walking eastbound on Southwest 19th Street when, for some unknown reason, he went to lay down halfway in the driveway of a home in the area. Detectives say the victim remained there for several hours before being struck by the passenger side undercarriage of a 2025 Honda CR-V. The driver of the Honda turned into the driveway to park. Following the collision, the driver immediately stopped and notified emergency services.
The victim was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation continues.
