Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding a deadly shooting in Lauderdale Lakes.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, Broward County Regional Communications received reports of a shooting in the 2800 block of Somerset Drive in Lauderdale Lakes. BSO deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded. On scene, deputies located an adult male, Hureleyon McLean, suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced him deceased. Upon arrival, deputies detained the shooter on scene. BSO's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit detectives responded to investigate.
The investigation revealed that McLean was in an altercation with his neighbor and was shot during that altercation. The neighbor cooperated with detectives and was brought to the Public Safety Building to be interviewed, where a claim of self-defense was presented.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case will be presented to the Broward County State Attorney's Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed.
The investigation is ongoing.
