Description of Incident:
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal three-vehicle crash that occurred in Pompano Beach on Friday, Jan. 31.

At approximately 5:26 p.m., BSO deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a three-vehicle crash near the 1300 block of South Ocean Drive. The preliminary investigation revealed Julius Clark was traveling in a 2024 Mercedes Benz C450 northbound on North Ocean Boulevard, possibly engaged in an illegal car race. At the same time, the driver of a 2021 Nissan Versa was traveling southbound on South Ocean Boulevard. Detectives say Ross Parker was traveling directly behind the Nissan in a 2020 Audi Q3.

Witnesses say, at some point, Clark, who was in the Mercedes, began weaving in and out of traffic when he entered the center divider turn lane at a high rate of speed. As Clark approached the center divider turn lane, he encountered a stopped cement truck. In an attempt to avoid the truck, Clark drove left, traveled northbound in the southbound lanes and struck the Nissan head on. Detectives say the Mercedes collided with the Nissan with such force that it pushed the vehicle backwards into the Audi driven by Parker.

Paramedics transported the Nissan driver and Parker to Broward Health North to be treated for their injuries. Investigators say the driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the hospital, and that Parker was treated and released.

The investigation continues.
