Florida Humane Society, 3870 N. Powerline Road, Pompano Beach
Deputies are called to a house to investigate an incident. Inside the home, they find a child who appears to be anxious by their arrival. One of the deputies retrieves a toy from the patrol car and gives it to the child while the other deputy interviews the adults. This simple and unexpected gift often reassures the child that the first responder is there to help.
This Friday, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and members of Pompano Beach Fire Rescue (PBFR) will receive about 1,500 stuffed animals from Florida Humane Society in Pompano Beach. The public safety officers will carry the stuffed animals with them on calls to give to children who need comforting during a difficult time.
For several years, Carol Ebert of the Florida Humane Society has shared the toys she receives from PetSmart Charities with BSO’s Pompano Beach deputies and PBFR. This year, BSO’s Deerfield Beach deputies will also receive the toy bunnies, lambs, cats, and dogs.
MEDIA NOTE: Interested media should RSVP with the Public Information Office by 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11.
