Date:  May 27, 2021

The Broward Sheriff’s Office will join the Pompano Beach community on Thursday in welcoming home a two-year-old boy who was a victim of a horrific dog bite.

Benjamin “Benji” Borja was in his front yard playing with his mom on Sunday, May 9, 2021, when he was bitten by a dog that ran out of a nearby residence. Benji’s mother tried to free the child from the dog’s grip. Eventually, the dog’s owner was able to pry the dog away. Benji sustained serious injuries, and he was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he underwent surgery.

Benji’s community in Cresthaven and BSO plan to welcome him home from the hospital and shower him with love and support. The celebration will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, with a caravan departing from Cresthaven Elementary School at 801 N.E. 25th Street in Pompano Beach. The parade will end at Benji’s residence.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and several community organizations will also be joining this celebration. All vehicles will be decorated with colorful balloons and get well signs. Participants are encouraged to bring a gift of their choosing including interactive and/or plush toys.

BSO hopes this celebration brings a smile to Benji’s face and replaces a frightening memory with a joyful one.
